Minister greets fellows at Limerick seminar event with Irish Aid staff

18/4/11 - Minister of State for Trade and Development, Ms Jan O'Sullivan TD, hosted a lunchtime reception for recipients of 2010-11 Irish Aid fellowships when they visited its Limerick headquarters for a seminar aimed at sharing information and strengthening engagement at a programme level.

The day provided an opportunity for Irish Aid staff to meet with students supported through the Fellowship Training Programme and other scholarships to strategise around key development challenges. Thematic sessions explored the areas of as HIV/AIDS and Health, Development, Social Protection and Gender, Environment, and Education

Partner country strategies for Ethiopia, Malawi, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia were discussed and presentations were received from fellows Lina Mbewe (Zambia), Solomon Bekele (Ethiopia) and Nguyen Thi Hong Tham (Vietnam).

Sheila Power, Director of ICOS, which manages aspects of the Fellowship Training Programme on behalf of Irish Aid, said she was delighted to be associated with the organisation of the seminar for a second successive year, adding: "This event is part of building on-going relationships with study fellows which extend beyond their stay in Ireland, including the further development of alumni networks for returned study fellows."
