Former Irish Aid Fellow honoured by Irish Centre for Human Rights

On 19th November 2010, Shawan Jabarin from Palestine was awarded the Distinguished Graduate Award from the Irish Centre for Human Rights at NUI Galway at its 10th Anniversary Celebrations. Shawan (pictured right) is director of Al-Haq, the respected Palestinian Non Governmental Organisation (NGO).

Unfortunately, the 2004-05 Irish Aid Fellow could not attend the ceremony in person as Israeli authorities prevented him from leaving the West Bank. He was forced to accept the award by video link on account of a travel ban that Al-Haq says has been imposed upon him since 2006.

In his statement, Shawan said that he was proud to receive the award and congratulated the Centre on its 10th anniversary and encouraged its continued efforts in promoting knowledge and respect for human rights.
