Collapse of DBL College

20/6/11 - The sudden closure of DBL College, Dublin on 13th May 2011 caused distress and disruption of studies to hundreds of international students. Fortunately, under Academic Bonding arrangements required by the Qualifications Act(s) and implemented by FETAC, most DBL students were or will be able to transfer to other colleges while the immigration implications of the closure have been handled sympathetically by INIS and the GNIB.

Nevertheless, it is ICOS’ view that the personal distress experienced by students, some of whom ICOS is still dealing with, could have been alleviated by better communication between agencies and with the students who are the real victims in these situations and a thorough review of procedures is called for.
