Have you ever wondered why some international students don't make eye contact with you?
Or why a seemingly simple group work task with a culturally mixed group of students runs into unexpected difficulties?
ICOS' training materials and courses are aimed at increasing intercultural awareness and intercultural competency for those who work with or teach international students.
The 'Diverse Voices: Listening to International Students' DVD and training guide was developed over a three year period, bringing together the experiences and perspectives of a range of international students on living and studying in Ireland. It is available for purchase, with a discount for members.
These courses have been specifically developed to meet the needs of those who work in the third level education sector. ICOS tries to keep group sizes small to encourage group interaction and sharing of expertise.
Training courses available are:
Half day workshops
One day workshop
Shorter training and information sessions
These can include orientation sessions for international students, one hour 'Taster' sessions and information sessions on topics such as developments in immigration or employment legislation for international students.
ICOS is acutely aware of the pressure that training budgets may be under in the current economic climate and our training rates are very competitive.
