ICOS and INIS meet over new student immigration regime

10/2/11 - At a meeting organised by ICOS, college international officers heard from INIS officials overseeing the new immigration regime for non-EEA students and were able to seek clarification of a number of points in the provisions introduced on 1st January 2011.

It was agreed that ICOS and INIS would pursue the dialogue further, both to increase the clarity and consistency of information being provided to international students and to explore ways to resolve some of the issues being encountered by international officers as the new rules take effect.

14 universities and colleges plus the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) were represented at the meeting, which was hosted by the National College of Ireland (NCI).

Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) policy officals Kevin O'Sullivan (Principal Officer), Peter Jones and Ian Kelleher, with ICOS Chairperson Nicola Carroll.
