      <title>New data improves picture of non-EEA students in Ireland</title><link>http://www.icosirl.ie/index.php/news/new_non_eea_student_data</link>

&lt;p&gt;Almost 45,000 non-EEA students spent more than three months studying in Ireland during 2008 it has been revealed. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;New figures from the Department of Justice, Immigration and Law Reform were given on January 28th following a question in the Irish parliament on international student numbers. The Department also gave a snapshot of the position at 29th October 2009 which showed 31,233 registrations across language schools, further and higher education. (Registration with immigration authorities is required for all non-EEA students attending courses longer than 90 days).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Dozens of international students from across Dublin gathered at the Mansion House on Monday evening for a unique forum to discuss their experiences and issues. The event was designed to give a much needed voice to students in the capital and was organised jointly by the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) and the Irish Council for International Students (ICOS). &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;International students in the Dublin area are invited to attend an evening forum on Monday 25th January that will give a unique opportunity to discuss experiences and issues of studying in the capital. In addition to themed workshops, the event will also feature an address from the Lord Mayor and an ICOS speaker on proposed changes to student immigration.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;30/9/09 - A newly published Code of Practice and Guidelines on the provision of higher education to International Students is now available online. The document was drawn up by a subcommittee appointed by the Irish Higher Education Quality Network.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;ICOS hopes it will be embraced as the basis for the introduction of the Quality Mark scheme recently promised by Minister Batt O&apos;Keeffe.&lt;/p&gt;
