INIS issues Guidelines for Colleges

1/9/11 - In addition to its guidelines for individual students, the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) has now put in place guidelines for colleges who are offering courses to full-time non-EEA students, summarising the new student immigration rules as they impact on providers.

42 begin fellowships after latest round of Irish Aid awards

30/8/11 - A total of 42 applicants will be taking up scholarships through the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme from the 2011-12 competition. The awards are distributed amongst Irish Aid's partner countries to support ongoing development efforts.

Abbey College closure

The sudden closure of Abbey College, Dublin on 5/8/11 has caused distress and disruption of studies to hundreds of international students. ICOS has been liaising with language sector bodies, Irish immigration and regulatory authorities over this matter and is providing more information on this page as it becomes available.

Report aims for more international students for Dublin

26/7/11 - A Dublin City Council report on strategies to boost international student numbers in the city has called for greater co-operation between state agencies, local authorities and the education sector. Among more than 30 specific recommendations are better alignment of visa and study cycles, improved gathering of views and feedback from international students and the launch of a new award scheme to recognise their contribution to city life.

Minister affirms duty to international students on standards

In an opening address to ICOS’ 2011 Annual Seminar on 9th June, Minister for Training and Skills, Ciarán Cannon TD, told attendees that Government has “ a duty to provide assurance to international students about the standards they will experience in Ireland”.
